Lance graduated from McNeese State University in 2016 with a degree in Behavioral Science with minors in Psychology and Sociology and then went on to obtain his Master of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Psychology, also at McNeese State University.
Lance’s previous clinical experience includes providing therapy for a year in an intensive in-home program working with many families, children and parents and then spending another year in a school based program working with children and teens ages 6-17 from a variety of backgrounds. He then went on to obtain over 3 years experience working in outpatient settings treating many different populations, affording him vast experience working with a variety of mental health issues and age groups. Lance spent time working directly under a psychiatrist having a caseload with a mix of both children/teens and adults with significant psychiatric diagnoses including bi-polar disorder, various mood disorders, OCD and other anxiety disorders, self-harming behaviors and also many trauma survivors diagnosed with PTSD.
Most recently prior to joining the team at CAATL, Lance worked in a private practice setting in the area treating primarily adults and teens. Lance has also had a significant amount of specialized training in several different treatment modalities including EMDR, DBT, CBT, trauma informed work, as well as Exposure Response and Prolonged Exposure treatment and has begun exploring Gottman training, as well. Our practice feels very grateful to have such a well rounded therapist as part of our clinical team!
Lance works with children/adolescents age 6-17, as well as adults of all ages including seniors. He provides mostly individual therapy but also does some couples work and certainly parenting/family treatment when working when younger clients. OCD, bi-polar disorder, depression, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, anger and impulse control disorders including other general compulsive and/or addictive behaviors are some of Lance’s specialties. He also enjoys and treats clients dealing with grief/bereavement, self-esteem, life transitions, coping skills, oppositional or defiant behavior, relationship issues and men’s issues.
Working diligently and collaboratively with his clients, Lance devises treatment plans specific to each client’s unique needs utilizing the evidence-based treatment modalities in which he has expertise and training. Lance meets clients where they are in their process and together as a team they explore more deeply the issues, finding solutions and meeting the goals and desired outcomes. He is a very proactive and problem solving therapist, but also greatly compassionate with a sincere interest in helping his clients have a much more keen self-awareness and understanding of their stories and journeys leading them to this place in time.
Lance is a very warm, down to earth, dedicated and highly skilled and ethical therapist. He says that he knew he wanted to be a therapist since his very younger years and is truly passionate about the field of mental health and helping others achieve their highest potential. Clients immediately feel his authenticity and investment in them. Being highly empathetic, open-minded, intuitive and also possessing a great sense of humor, Lance tends to build a strong rapport with his clients as they feel put at ease and comfortable quickly. He is also an ally and safe space for clients from vulnerable or marginalized populations.
Lance has flexible office hours with both day and some after hours appointments Monday- Friday, offering both in person and virtual sessions. He is an in-network provider for BCBS plans (except Blue value, local, home or healthy blue), Cigna, Aetna, Medcost and United/UBH/Optum, accepting private pay and some sliding scale options, as well. He offers free 15 minute phone consultations initially to clients if they would like to determine if their needs are a good fit with his experience and expertise.
In his personal life, Lance is a huge sports enthusiast and also loves snowboarding, the beach, his coffee, music, his 2 amazing pups and most importantly his infant son! He is a self-proclaimed “nerd” when it comes to video games, supernatural stuff, anime, medical shows and good comedies. His favorite season is the fall, he’s always up for a good adventure and even in his spare time, he is completely fascinated with psychopathology and always researching and yearning to learn more! He’s also our resident “dude” on the team, so we appreciate him very much! :)
